I use modeling to study the transport of trace gases from the planetary boundary layer into the upper atmosphere by deep convective clouds. The systems I consider are usually not possible to measure in situ though lab studies suggest that they play an important role in aerosol nucleation. Once the amounts of the gases transported to the upper layers of the atmosphere known, it is then possible to make further inferences on the plausibility of the formation of the smallest aerosol particles from those gaseous precursors.
