I am a marine biogeochemist/aerosol physicist and a theme throughout my research career has been the interaction between the surface ocean and the atmosphere. More specifically, I am interested in the emission of matter from the oceans, in the form of sea spray aerosols, and how these aerosols can impact climate and transport pollutants.

In order to investigate the process of sea spray aerosol generation, I utilize purpose-built sea spray simulation chambers both in the laboratory and field. These enable quantification of the flux of nascent sea spray aerosols for later parameterization in large-scale models and investigation of the chemical composition of nascent sea spray aerosols both in terms of natural organic matter and anthropogenic contaminants.
